Faith Seeds is an international program designed to provide schooling and meals for children in Guatemala. Faith Seeds was started several years ago by Gaby Munoz, a Guatemalan native, who is dedicated to the education of children in Guatemala. The country of Guatemala has the highest illiteracy rate in Central America and only 1 out of every 10 children graduate from secondary schooling (high school).Faith Seeds works in two different cities in Guatemala where many adults and older children scavenge in garbage dumps for work; looking for recyclable items to sell to earn their living. Families make on average $5 per day, which is not enough to send children to school. Guatemala’s public education system does not provide free education to children, therefore many children are forced to leave school to work and help their families. Faith Seeds works to provide scholarships for these children so they can continue their education.
